COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY PUEBLO, originally known as Southern Colorado Junior College, was founded in 1933. It changed its name in 2003 to align with the Colorado State University System. The campus is located in Pueblo, Colorado, spanning 275 acres in a diverse community of over 120,000 people. The campus has undergone renovations and expansions, including the Occhiato Student Center and the Center for Integrated Health & Human Inquiry. The university also offers classes in Colorado Springs and Castle Rock to accommodate working adults, military personnel, and various majors, such as Sociology, Social Work, and Business Administration-Management, along with general education courses. Packaging Express stands as one of Colorado's few remaining independent producers of personalized corrugated boxes. Our expertise lies in crafting, producing, and delivering top-notch custom boxes, displays, and an array of other products. Boasting an expansive manufacturing space of 70,000 square feet in both Denver and Colorado Springs, we house state-of-the-art equipment that ranks among the finest in the entire state. Here on the right is a portfolio piece we created for AICC (The Independant Packaging Association) located in Alexandria, Virginia. Our role involved a photo-shoot which ended up being the cover of AICC's November-December 2023 magazine cover.
AICC, The Independent Packaging Association, was established in 1974 to advocate for the interests of independent packaging manufacturers, encompassing sectors such as corrugated, folding carton, and rigid box industries. Since its inception with a gathering of 90 attendees from fifty-four companies, AICC has expanded its focus to include crucial industry issues like paper supply and competitive equality, cementing its role as a pivotal organization for independent operators. Today, AICC remains at the forefront of the packaging industry, advocating for growth and innovation while fostering educational and technological advancements. With over 60 online courses available to members and initiatives like the Emerging Leaders program, AICC invests heavily in workforce development and industry education. The association also showcases next-generation technology through events such as SuperCorrExpo, promoting efficiency and high-tech solutions within the packaging sector. Northwest Offset Printing (NWOP) is a leading commercial offset printer based in Spokane Valley, Washington. With a lineage tracing back to the printing facilities responsible for producing The Spokesman-Review, a regional newspaper owned by the Cowles family for over 140 years, NWOP has emerged as a direct evolution of this tradition. In June 2020, we inaugurated our state-of-the-art facility and have since expanded our repertoire to include the printing of numerous regional and national publications for a diverse range of customers. Born in 1954, Joel has an unparalleled understanding of human anatomy, informed by his extensive medical career. His artistic journey began in earnest in 2014, inspired by his travels across cultural capitals in Italy, Spain, France, and Israel. Joel’s transition from medicine to sculpture is fueled by his experiences with patients during critical moments, which deeply influence his narrative-driven approach to art. 4th Place: in a National Competition
In Spring of 2017, I had the honor of securing fourth place in a national logo design competition held by the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC). As a visual communications student at Pueblo Community College, I put forth my best effort in creating a unique logo for the AEJMC 2018 conference, which was open to students from various higher education institutions across the country. The challenge was to design a logo that could be reproduced in solid tones and adaptable for different uses, such as program covers, name tags, and promotional materials.
My passion for art and the opportunity to express people's thoughts visually fueled my determination. Drawing inspiration from my research on the organization and the conference's location in Washington, D.C., I developed a sleek black-and-white silhouette of the Washington Monument, capturing the essence of the event. The process demanded adhering to strict guidelines, including scripted typographic elements and avoiding copyrighted artwork. Despite being surprised by my top-five finish, especially competing against university students nationwide, I felt proud to represent PCC in the competition. Notably, the University of Kentucky took the first three spots, with me proudly holding the fourth position and showcasing PCC's capabilities in graphic design on a national stage.
